Nervous System Repair

The Safe & Sound Protocol is an acoustic intervention and vagus nerve stimulator to cue the body in becoming physiologically safe and optimizes the nervous system's ability to regulate itself. The music is considered a neural exercise and puts a progressive demand on the nervous system, so this is not just about calming you down in the moment.

It is an application of the Polyvagal Theory that provides cues to the nervous system to become safer. The music emits specific frequencies, through filtered music to the middle ear muscles, which regulate our physiological state through the vagus nerve.

I recently completed a Low Pressure Immersion with Dr. Somer Nicole and wanted to share a bit about my experience. So it's really cool for me to feel as we progress through the program, the neuromuscular rewiring taking place in my system week after week to feel the deep core muscles turning back on, reengaging and strengthening. After many years of being dormant and atrophying due to not only physical injury but also emotional trauma, and so now I feel a much greater sense of integration between my upper body and my lower body.

 

And I feel this not only during times of movement, but also during stillness. So posteriorly, I feel a greater sense of connection between upper and lower body, and just a greater sense of strength and ease in my posture both seated and standing also have experienced a reduction in the sensations of tightness and tension and gripping in my abdomen region in general that I've felt for a long, long time, specifically in my lower abdomen and this reduction in tension and gripping and tightness has been really nice to experience.

For me, Low Pressure fitness gave me a tool, something I had really been looking for for years without ever really finding, until I came across this. 

 

I've had multiple injuries in my life, imbalances in my body, and I used to, like, lift a lot and be really physically active. And I would try to do, like, corrective exercises and, you know, different stuff to, you know, fix some of the issues that are going on.

 

Some tightness is, muscles that seemingly just didn't want to fire properly and turned on.

 

Low Pressure Fitness really targeted those deep core muscles that had been turned off, probably from those injuries and learned movement patterns. And as I've been doing this and progressing through it, some of those deep core muscles have started turning back on.

 

I'm noticing, like more stability in my body, more openness, and more confidence. My chest is more open. Shoulders are more in a proper position.

 

And it's also sort of going over into, my nervous system health, more in a parasympathetic state, calmer. It's really just been a great tool.

 

Dr. Somer does an amazing job facilitating. And she did a great job for everyone in the group of guiding everyone through it, helping them with the form, the proper techniques and all of that. I'm really happy with having learned this and I'm going to continue using it moving forward.

I started regularly practicing LPF/Hypopressives a few months ago with Dr. Somer. I am very active and enjoy CrossFit and long distance running. You will not easily or readily find the great synthesis of teaching Somer offers.
